10:00 – 11:30 AM: Part 1: 5G Deployment Changes and Best Practices to Optimize Network Performance

Presenter: Carl Lee, Sr. Advanced Technologies and Solutions Engineer, EXFO

As the demand for low latency and feature rich content continues to increase, mobile operators are constantly challenged to improve network and spectral efficiency. This includes the implementation of mobile edge computing to provide unparallel access to trusted device processing and data offload. Carl will explore and discuss the challenges of deploying 5G in today’s environment and all of the best practices to optimize network performance.

  • Fiber inspection and characterization
  • CPRI/eCPRI standards and protocols
  • Fronthaul and backhaul validation

1:00 – 2:30 PM: Part 2: AFL Fusion Splicer Review and Demonstration

Presenter: Mark Davis, Territory Sales Manager for Southern California, AFL

Mark Davis will review the line of AFL fusion splicers offered for rent by Electro Rent and discuss the operation and settings in the menu to perform splicing and fusion connections for these devices. In addition, there will be some hands-on experience for technicians that want a refresher or are new experience to these devices.

  • Daily set up and maintenance of fusion splicers (arc calibration, diagnostic tests, and replacement of trays and electrodes, if needed).
  • Operation and setup of the menu for splice operation for all types of fiber splicing
  • When to use holders versus sheath clamps on the 90S fiber splicer
  • Hands-on fusion splice and where to check integrity and db loss of splice in menus
  • How to use AFL’s FUSEConnect on the 90S
