Electronics design and testing were once two distinct functions where an electronic design was breadboarded and populated before testing. Problems that emerged during testing may have forced some time-consuming modification and redesign. But shorter design cycles and the availability of advanced software dictate that engineers integrate testing earlier in the design cycle. The emergence of chiplets and other advanced packaging makes design for test even more important. Thankfully, software advancements, aided by the rapid emergence of AI and machine learning, is making it possible to more easily automate testing and streamline design cycles.
