Due to the rapid spread of cloud computing, faster communications standards, such as 400 GbE and PCI Express Gen5 are being examined for high-speed processing of large data volumes by network servers and digital equipment. Faster signal speeds require even better interconnectivity between these equipment and internal connections, and assuring signal integrity requires incorporation of Emphasis functions in high-speed devices to compensate for transmission path losses.
The MP1900A series pulse pattern generator (PPG) for evaluating high-speed interfaces has a built-in Emphasis function and can generate signals emulating input/output channel loss of various high-speed devices, PC boards, cables, etc. As a result, channelloss dependent high-speed device performance tests can be run easily with good reproducibility without needing to prototype multiple channel boards, helping cut development time.
Anritsu Company introduces two options for its Signal Quality Analyzer-R MP1900A BERT series that have been developed for more accurate and efficient testing of 100G/200G/400G Ethernet network interfaces, and PCI Express Gen4 and USB 3.1 bus interfaces. The Variable ISI MU195020A-040/041 option upgrades the Emphasis function of the MP1900A’s internal Pulse Pattern Generator (PPG) for evaluation of high-speed interfaces, backplanes, and cables. To support USB 3.0/3.1 receiver testing in accordance with the serial interface standard, Anritsu has developed the USB Link Training Software MX183000A-PL022 for the MP1900A, as well.
Integrating the new Inter Symbol Interference (ISI) option into the MP1900A allows engineers to more easily and efficiently evaluate high-speed interfaces, backplanes, and cables. The Variable ISI option uses the 10Tap 20-dB variable Emphasis function which features the industry’s most flexible signal controllability to emulate CEI-25G/28G-defined signal path transmission losses. It allows ISI emulation using the De-Emphasis function to close the eye, so engineers can simply adjust the ISI effect without using an actual loss channel. This allows the impact of transmission path losses on the test device to be evaluated simply, without testing PC boards. The option also permits auto-calculation of the best Pre-Emphasis setting based on S-parameter files to compensate for ISI caused by cable connections and test fixtures, enabling engineers to counteract loss in the channel and open the eye. Both functions help reduce development cost and time.
